Step 1: Root is played over a series of turns where each faction follows its own script. Win by reaching 30 victory points or completing a special dominance card. Here’s a quick starter guide 😀:

Step 2: Choose Your Faction

Step 3: Pick a faction with a clear role: Marquise builds and controls, Eyrie expands, Woodland Alliance rebels, Vagabond explores. New players usually start with Marquise or Eyrie.

Step 4: Learn Your Player Board

Step 5: Read the steps printed on your faction board: Birdsong, Daylight, Evening. Follow them in order every turn; this is basically your personal rulebook 👍.

Step 6: Place Starting Pieces

Step 7: Use the setup diagram on your board. Place warriors, buildings, and tokens in the exact clearings shown so everyone begins with the right starting power.

Step 8: Take Actions in Order

Step 9: On your turn, move, battle, craft cards, and place buildings following your faction rules. Most actions cost cards or depend on which suits (fox, mouse, rabbit) you control.

Step 10: Score Victory Points

Step 11: Gain points by building, spreading sympathy, completing quests, crafting items, or playing dominance cards. Track your score on the shared victory track 📈.
